Empowering Those Living in the Modern World
Whether this is the first time that you're seeking out therapy or if you have done this before, the process can be overwhelming. Being here is step one.
A place to feel heard, empowered and understood in your life.
Hi! I’m Melanie Eisman Garber, LCSW-C
I am an individual and family therapist that works primarily with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. I integrate traditional psychotherapy with a myriad of techniques to help clients channel their inner strength and make positive and desired changes in their lives. I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) while also utilizing mindfulness, strengths-based and eclectic approaches to therapy.
Seeking appropriate therapy for yourself or your child can feel very overwhelming and it is my priority to ensure that my approach is consistent with your goals and preferences.

Experience
I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University in New York City and a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University. After receiving my Master's, I spent 10 years in NYC gaining significant experience within outpatient and inpatient high-risk mental health clinics, Pediatric and Adult hospitals throughout Manhattan, and private practices in various parts of New York and Maryland.
My family and I relocated outside of Washington DC, where I grew up. I have a personal understanding of what it is like living in the hustle and bustle of a big city, while also understanding the strains and pressures of growing up in a competitive and fast-paced suburb. I believe these experiences lend themselves to the therapeutic process and build rapport with my patients and families.
My Approach
My practice focuses on adolescents, teens, young adults, and families who are managing stress as a result of a number of situations. This could include anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem/self-image, significant life changes and transitions, anger, school pressure, strained family relationships, grief or divorce/separation. There is no cookie-cutter treatment, and I believe in providing each patient with an individualized treatment plan that is consistent with your goals and preferences. I incorporate a variety of therapeutic and eclectic approaches which are personalized to meet you or your child’s needs and facilitate your desired outcomes. I also offer walk/talk therapy sessions, combining the benefits of physical activity with therapeutic conversation. Enjoy a relaxed, outdoor environment while working through your thoughts and feelings with a licensed therapist.
Meet Louie
Introducing Louie, a four-year-old Micro mini labradoodle. As both an animal lover and therapist, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of animals in therapeutic settings. Animals possess a unique ability to offer comfort and emotional support, making them invaluable partners in the healing process. Their presence can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, fostering a serene environment conducive to recovery. With their unconditional love and non-judgmental nature, animals help build trust and facilitate open communication, enhancing the overall effectiveness of therapy.
Louie loves being part of sessions (upon client’s request) either on the couch or on a walking session.
